[KAIST NEREC] Announcement of 2018 NEREC Summer Fellows Program

Greetings from South Korea.

I am writing this email to ask for your assistance to spread the word about a Summer Fellows Program in Korea.

I am Jeemin Ha, a program officer of Nuclaer Nonproliferation Education and Research Center(NEREC) at KAIST. On behalf of Director Man-Sung Yim, Professor of Department of Nuclear and Quantum Engineering at KAIST, I send the message to you.

In March 2014, the Korean government established an academic think tank called “Nuclear Non-Proliferation Education & Research Center (NEREC)” at KAIST to undertake education and research to foster international nuclear non-proliferation conducive to peaceful use of nuclear technology.

The Center has three objectives: (1) to train and nurture nonproliferation human resources, (2) to conduct nonproliferation policy research combining technical expertise and policy insights, and (3) to lead discussions on the peaceful use of nuclear technology and various aspects of nuclear nonproliferation.

As a major part of the Center’s annual activities, NEREC runs “Summer Fellows Program” for undergraduate and graduate students. For the last four years, around 99 students from top-notch universities in various countries including the United States, Singapore, Sweden, Vietnam, India, Nigeria as well as Korea were selected as Fellows and had a wonderful summer time by studying and doing research on nuclear nonproliferation and experiencing Korean culture. We would love to meet another excellent students this summer.

The 2018 NEREC Summer Fellows Program, the 5th in its series, will be held as follows:

(1) Young Fellows Program for Undergraduate Students

– Duration: July 8 to August 10, 2018 (5 weeks)

– Place: KAIST, Daejeon, ROK

– Activities: Lectures on Nuclear energy and Nonproliferation, Debate or Role Play as a teamwork, Field Trips to Seoul and Gyeongju,Participation and poster presentation at the NEREC Conference on Nuclear Nonproliferation and Korean cultural events

– Benefits: Lodging for 5 weeks and all costs related to field trips and Conference participation (approximately USD 2,500 per person)

(2) Graduate Fellows Program for Graduate Students

– Duration: July 8 to August 18, 2018 (6 weeks)

– Place: KAIST, Daejeon, ROK

– Activities: ‘Nuclear Risk Management’ Class, Group research, Field trips to Seoul, Gyeongju, and China and Japan, Participation and poster presentation at the NEREC Conference on Nuclear Nonproliferation and Korean cultural events

– Benefits: Lodging for 6 weeks and all costs related to field trips and Conference participation (approximately USD 6,000 per person)
